Space Bounty was the brain child of Chris Wagner, Hoarding Dragon Games. The plan was to create an Android mobile game with incentivised engagement rewards, crowd-sourced jackpots with real money payouts, and in-app purchases.
The game didn't have a name, but the concept was to create a game similar to the old school Space Invaders or Galaga game. I had 100 hours to collaborated with Chris on coming up with a name, logo and tagline, a theme, and create illustrations for user and enemy space crafts, game levels backgrounds, a boss character, UI elements for game play, and app store banner graphic to promote the game in the Google Play store.
Chris and I came up with the name based on the business model that players would get "paid" to play—a bounty, so the name and tagline came fairly quickly. I first started playing with ideas for the main boss character, and the logo was based on the shape of the boss' head, and then integrated that shape into uniforms and spacecraft designs. Inspiration came from sci-fi movies growing up like Star Wars, Buck Rogers, and Battlestar Galactica and the Mars Attacks movie (visible brain of the boss).
Chris was really happy with the illustrations and graphics, and how the game performed in the app store, and spoke at a Web Geeks meetup to discuss the project and share the results. I received an ADAI Excellence Award for the game illustrations.
